Gourds were one of the first plants to be cultivated by humans and as such have been used for centuries as a food source, tools, containers, the making of music, and art. The hard shelled gourd provides a particularly wonderful medium for artistic expression. Totem poles have been used by the indigenous tribes of the Americas for many purposes but mostly they tell a story.
The Fabulous Gourd Rocket This group of artists produced a series of delightful gourd totem poles celebrating not only the diversity and talents of the artists but also the spirit of the Hahn Garden, Virginia Tech, and the New River Valley. Gourd Sun
